Welcome to the webpage that will help you prepare for and lead virtual programs for assisted living communities.
How do I sign up to lead a program?
1) Katherine contacts the assisted living communities and arranges a date.
2) Katherine sends out the dates. Docents sign up by replying to the email. First come first served for signing up.
How do I prepare for the program?
There are two ways to access the Powerpoint presentation.
1) Scroll down on this page to find the Powerpoint presentation for the program you want to lead.
2) Get a gmail account at gmail.com. Send your new gmail address to Katherine and she will share the presentation with you through google drive. She can explain how this works if you choose option 2.
What happens the day of the program?
1) Staff sends the docent and the senior community coordinator the Zoom link.
2) You and staff/docent assistant log into Zoom at least 15 minutes before the program start time for a tech check.
3) What's next? A typical program includes introducing yourself and the Library briefly, a slide presentation, and Q and A and/or comments from the audience at the end.
What's the set-up of the audience?
There are a few possible set-ups for the audience. Staff will try to find out what the set-up will be ahead of time.
1) Residents may be on their own devices.
2) Residents may be sitting in a common room with one camera showing the room.
3) Residents may be in a hybrid set-up with some on their own devices and some in a common room. In this situation, you'll see individual squares and a "common room" square.
How does the Powerpoint part work?
There are two options
Option 1: Katherine controls all the tech and the Powerpoint. She shares her screen, you talk and tell her when to advance the slides.
Option 2: Katherine shares the Powpoint with you, you share your screen, and advance your own slides.
When the presentation part is over Katherine turns off the Powerpoint. Questions will be in the chat and residents can unmute or speak up in the common room as well. Usually the assisted living program coordinator helps by repeating questions for you so you can hear them better.
Can I add slides that are not part of the boilerplate presentation?
Yes, other images are welcome as long as they are relevant to the topic and are Kennedy Library collection images or have a source listed that staff can credit. Please send staff any new images you'd like to include and they can add them to your Powerpoint.
